Amazon echo devices you probably don't know enough or don't know yet

When talking about Amazon Alexa devices, you probably have never heard of some of them. Not because they are not good enough, but because they are not so commonly used.

Probably this is the reason why you are not already using them or at least considering to do.

It is guaranteed that our list won’t include mainstream devices like the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Show series. And neither the Echo Studio with its amazing sound output. These are all Echo devices already in use by millions.

Instead, the less known ones are what this article is about. Amazon Alexa devices like:

  • Amazon Echo Flex
  • Amazon Echo Plus
  • Amazon Tap
  • Amazon Echo Frames

Amazon Echo Flex and Echo Plus: the ones for your home

Both these devices do not enjoy much popularity, as the other ones, but they can be great if used in the right way and place.

Amazon Echo Flex

The Amazon Echo Flex, at first sight, looks more like a charging adapter than like an Alexa enabled device. It comes in a small form and will only occupy the space of a power plug. It has a small speaker and a far-field microphone. Also, it has a USB port where you can charge your phone, add a night lamp or a motion sensor. However, with it, you can access all of the Alexa features like any other device.

As for the rumors that Amazon Echo Flex discontinued, nothing can be said for sure at the moment. The device remains unavailable in the Amazon store at the moment, but there is no official announcement from Amazon itself.

The Amazon Echo Plus

The Amazon Echo Plus, a device for which Amazon has discontinued production from 2020. Even if the production for Amazon Echo Plus discontinued, you can still find it available in the market.

It is an improved version of the standard Echo, with better sound output and more stylish. However, what makes the difference is the fact that it has a built-in temperature sensor and a Zigbee home automation hub. Quite helpful if you intend to add smart home devices in your house.

The Amazon Alexa devices you can use on the move

Amongst many devices, thought for inside the house use, Amazon started launching devices that you can use when outside. Two good examples are Amazon Tap and Amazon Echo Frames.

Amazon Tap

Amazon Tap: the only non-wearable, Alexa enabled device with a built-in battery.

Initially, it seemed like a proper solution for those who wanted to access Alexa outside their house but, a few years later, Amazon discontinued their support for this model. However, you can still find it online.

Amazon Tap has a battery that can last for up to 8 hours and a sound system powered by Dolby, with dual stereo speakers.

The Amazon Echo Frames started as a project nearly two years ago with an invite-only buying process. At the end of 2020 Amazon launched the Echo Frames 2nd generation and made them available for the wide public.

Amazon Echo Frame uses Alexa as its default virtual assistant and is an Alexa-enabled device. However, you can use them with another virtual assistant, something Amazon itself has confirmed. They connect with the Alexa app on your smartphone using Bluetooth, which allows you to use the Alexa features.
